Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I'm receiving letters from a truant officer that threaten me with possible jail time and/or fines if my son misses any more school. My son is 18 (since September) and as I understand it, the compulsory school age in Illinois is 7-17. I called the officer and left a message stating that my son is 18 and that my understanding of the law excludes me or my son from any truancy laws. I asked for a call back but did not receive one and instead received a second warning a month later.

I want to send a letter to the truant officer and the regional office of education (who employs the officer) asking them to cease sending me letters and to ask that they seek to have the records expunged where copies of these letters were sent (D.C.F.S., Assistant State's attorney and my son's high school)

Am I within my rights to request this?

Thank you

Seems like they are in the wrong here. So the answer is yes. I suggest sending them by certified mail returne receipt.
