Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I recently hired an attorney to represent me in an adoption case. I am consenting to the adoption and only hired him to review the paperwork and make sure it was in tact. At the time of retaining him, the fee was a flat $400 that needed to be paid up front and he said it should be done within a month. Well we have going on 6 weeks and now he wants an additonal $400 because now he said he has to appear in court. Is this considered misconduct?

No. Did you sign a written retainer? Did it say there was a flat fee? There are many reasons this could happen. It would be pure conjecture to say more.
