Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

i just recieved a notice from my ex asking for joint custody of our 8 yr old. he seems to think that a judge will call her ito his chamders and let her decide where she wants to live. is this allowed? she has always lived with me. my ex is already coaching her and telling her that this topic has never been talked about. i need to be prepared. what can i do to protect my self from someone that is manipulative andunscrupulous?

Its extremely unlikely a judge will ever do such a thing. They may get a child rep to meet with the child, but the rep is an attorney who usually sees through attempts at coaching. Your best course of action is to be assertive, and given that he the other parent is asking for a change in custody, you need to get a family lawyer.

For the most part, these kind of matters are decided early on in a case, and how the parties frame the issue is important.
