Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Recoup College Tuition

I divorced my husband of 10 years when our only child was in his early years of grade school. My divorce decree did not cover who was going to pay for our son's College tuition. Both my ex-husband & I are graduates of Miami University. When it came time for my son to go to College, and he was accepted to McGill University, my husband verbally agreed to pay for 1/3 rd of Nicholas' Tuition. After our son's second year at school, my ex said he would not pay any more tuition, as our son had turned 21 and he should be on his own. McGill University is located in Montreal Canada, and he only had a visa to go to school there, and they did not allow him to work there on that visa. The remaining two years were totally paid for by me, his mother. Can I go back and sue my ex for two years of unpaid tuition at the rate we had verbally agreed to? One third of the tuition plus interest ?

Re: Recoup College Tuition

Probably not. Your ex was never ordered to pay the money, and its all in the past anyway.
