Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
Reduction in Child Support
I currently live in Texas, but I was divorced in Illinois in 1996. The amount of child support that was court ordered for two children was $500 a month. I never questioned the amount at that time since the divorce was very difficult for me. I believe this amount was unfairly justified since at that time my income was $13,000 yearly. My current job pays $18,000 yearly. Would it be beneficial on my part to try get my child support reduced at this time. After child support payments and additional $200 a month for medical/dental for the children I am left with little to support my current family. I would appreciate any advice on what direction to take.

Re: Reduction in Child Support
In TX the child support would be calcualted at about $312/mo plus insurance payments. If you have any other children, the CS would be reduced accordingly. I don't know what the IL child support calculations would be. Child support is awarded on the best interests of the children and modifications are considered on the same basis.
