Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
reduction of support
I currently pay 100/week. I had that figured based upon a current ocupation from which I got layed off from. I was then forced to go back into my contracting business again. I was $6,500 in the red for 2006. The reason for this was because of business debt and income and working for someone else in 2006. What do I have to do to get the support reduced to a lower amount in which I can afford? I am now a month behind which needs to be made up. Is it better to pay something versus nothing so I do not get further behind?

Re: reduction of support
You need to get into court again asap! You do not have the option of not paying when a court has ordered you to pay. You CAN get in and ask for a change or an abatement. You will need to prove that you did not cook the books and will need to be able, in front of most judges, to show that you are now or shortly will be making a profit. Otherwise the court may require you to look for a wage paying job.
