If you are seeking a divorce for domestic abuse in the state of IL. do you have to remain in the county/area where you were married until the divorce is finalized or are you free to move if you like?

In order for the court to have jurisdiction, you have to have lived in Illinois on the date the petition was filed and for 90 days before that date or the date of trial. If you have children, onc the case is filed you can not leave the state without a court order or the written consent of your spouse. You can, in theory, move anywhere in the state. But if you do you still have to comply with any outstanding orders, including visitation orders.
