Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I have been separated with my husband for about 1 1/2 and he is demands the engagement ring back. I believe is mine and I never asked to have nothing else, I never got any help from him when we separated, we don't have kids we only have a loan together in which I co-sign for him, that I have not paid my half or do I have to? Should I

fight for the ring?
