Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

seperation/ divorce

I am seperated from my wife right now, and there is a good chance that we will be getting a divorce in the near future. Would it be wise to get a legal seperation or a divorce, as far as financial wise. I am trying to let her keep the house and let her find out if she can or not, so I'm not sure how long she will be dragging this out in the mean time. I'm alsopaying all credit debt on my own, and I'm afraid that she will sock me with her school debt that she hasn't finished yet. Any suggestions? Thank-you Chris

Re: seperation/ divorce

you need to file divorce now. if you do not control the situation, it will control you.

The finanacial settlement depends on a number of factors.

length of marriage, equity in the house, amount of total debt, current earning power, future earning power and any other assets you may have all come into play.

i would need more information to give you a better answer
