Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

What happens if someone is trying to serve a summons through the sherriff and has tried numerous time but the person is not their. They also never appear to be their. What if they moved and did not leave a forwarding address.

Then the case can not proceed. You have to appropriately serve a defendant for the court to have power to enter an order against him.

You can obtain a simple divorce, with service by publication, but you can not obtain a support order against the other side, nor division of property.
