Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

signing off parental rights

My parents and I would like for my x-boyfriend to sign off his parental rights. He has shown no interest in our 3 week old son or me for most of the pregnancy and birth. I do not want to ever face joint custody. Fighting over this is not worth child support. He lives in another state and is still in college. He has agreed to sign off his parental rights. Can he obtain an attorney to have the paper work drawn up where he lives, or is it my responsibility to get an attorney? He has stated the paper work is something I have to take care of and then send to him. Is it something he can take care of where he lives, and then send to me? It is definately what he and I both want to do. Both sets of parents agree as well. Thank you.

Re: signing off parental rights

You should hire a lawyer to do the paper work and go into court and have his parental rights terminated.
