Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I am a single mother of a 9 month old. I am a Canadian citizen but a US resident. My son's father is trying to prevent us from traveling back to Canada to visit my family. He does not pay any child support. Do I need a court injunction in order to travel internationally without his permission? If so, what is the best way to go about doing this that won't cost me a fortune in legal fees.
