My sister and her husband are interested in having me take on the care of their daughter, They live in Illinois, and I live in New Mexico, my niece is 17 years old, and she wishes to finnish her High School in New Mexico. What are the options available regarding my establishing some custodial rights while she is under my care, without having to take away her parent's rights? I am a gay male in a committed long term relationship with another male, we are not legally married.
