Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Is it possible to get sole legal custody of my daughter? My ex boyfriend was extremely verbally abusive to me throughout my pregnancy and after. He has been physically abusive recently, and I filed a domestic violence case against him and an emergency order of protection. The domestic violence case got dismissed on the count that it was "equally combative" and I decided not to extend the order of protection to 2 years, because I want to make this as simple as possible. I feel the emergency order was necessary in the heat of everything, but now that things are calmer, we can parent civilly together. We've sat down and discussed parenting together, and we both would like to come to an agreement. Unfortunately, he refuses to give me sole legal custody. He works as a bartender 10 shifts a month. He abuses alcohol. He lives with his mother. Is this enough evidence to go on to get sole legal custody of our daughter? Would he also have to get another job?
