Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I had sole & residential custody of my son until his turned 13. It was ordered joint custody and his father residential custody. Now my son is 16 and his father and him are not getting along. There have recently been physical confrontations, where my son was arrested. I am planning on filing for emergency custody, due to it has become an unhealthy environment for both of them. Is this considered a new case? Do I have to file where our previous child support/custody case judgment was filed (Cook County, IL) or can I file in the county in which I live in (DuPage County, IL)? How do I go about filing for emergency custody without a lawyer? I was given a child support payment which is half of my check and can not afford a lawyer.
