Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

My sons father left the picture when my son was 8 months old. Right before my son turned 2 he showed back up and is now seeking sole custody. He has paid child support in his absence but now said he is "tired" of paying me money and wants me to "see what it feels like to have to give up 20% of my pay." We are going through the divorce now and the trial starts next month. What are my chances of losing sole custody? (my sons dad lives 4 hours away and is active duty air force.)

You should be asking thes questions of your attorney in the divorce proceedings.

The chances of you losing custody of your child when you have been raising the child by yourself, and receiving child support, is very low. If you are going to trial on the divorce, you should get an attorney anyway, as it is worth it from a financial standpoint to ensure you do not lose support (as well as the child).
