Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Step parent adoption

I had a child out of wedlock in Indiana and the father offered to relinquish his rights twice now. I have since moved out of state and got married. My new husband wants to adopt my children. How do I go about getting this done since I am in a different state then the Father of my child? He hasn't seen his child in 7 1/2 yrs. My other child's father hasn't been able to be found in almost 14 yrs now. Can I apply for the adoption in the state we live in now (almost 2 yrs now) or the state the father lives in (where the children were born)??

Re: Step parent adoption

You apply in the sate where you live now. I am handling a 'related adoption' (as they are called) right now like yours. Its just a matter of getting everyone to sign the right documents and making sure the appropriate court procedures are followed so the adoption cannot be undone later. Which state and county are you in now? Let me know if you have any more questions.
