Can someone sue a spouse's lover for financial losses accrued while spouse had a prolonged affair and as a direct result of divorce? Is there a time limit on such lawsuits in Illinois?

Yes. You can sure for Alienation of Affection, but I believe you have to establish that he or she caused the alienation , that is if your spouse was already separated emotionally from you you may not be successful. In addition you are only entitled to actual damages on emotional damages. And the statute of limitations is two years.
