Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Being sued by sisterlaw who gave us gift

My sisterinlaw is suing me for a gift of $10,000.00 she gave to my husband and I. (my brother got a very large settlement and they gave money to alot of family members) My husband left me for another woman 4 months later. I am currently going through a divorce with him, and my sisterinlaw said if i did not go to court and lie for her and say it was a loan she would sue me for the money in court. She only wanted his half back and would say I paid her back my half of the money. She also wanted my children on a visitation to plant drugs in his car so he would go to jail. I told her no and she said fine I will take your ass to court then and sue just you for the money and say it was a loan. The check she wrote to me clearly says in big letters GIFT. this was almost 2 years ago she gave us this gift. Besides the proof of check what else can I bring to court to prove my case that this was a gift from her. She is a very vindictative person. Is there a statatue of a law somewhere on family gifts that I could get a copy of somewhere. She has been commited twice already for her bi-polar disorder and can get violent at times. My own brother is afraid of her actions. I have filed a countersuit against her for court costs, harrassment and gas.

I never heard of anyone sueing for gas. It sounds to me that you don't have a lawyer. Do yourself a favor, and hire a lawyer.
