Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Supervised Visitation

My ex justrecieved supervised visitation. We haven't been together for over a year. Our child is 2 1/2 years old and she hasn't seen her dad since the day we moved out. We moved out due to the many occasions of abuse. On the day we moved out my ex and I got into a fight while in the car and he physically removed me from the car and drove off with our child in the car. He returned not long after and out of stupidity (yet mostly fear for my child) I got back into the car. As soon as we got home I packed a small amount of things and we left him for good. Since then he has never asked to see our child until about one month ago. He is mentally unstable (he is bipolar) he does not take his medications, and even if he did he is constantly on drugs or drinking. He has been arrested over 80 times for violent crimes drugs weapons and everytime has resisted arrest. Each and every month he gets atleast one new charge. He rarely pays child support. My child and I have a O.P. agianst him since 7/03 and he has violated it twice. Isn't there any way I can stop him from having visitation rights to my child. I know that they are supervised but I still feel that he is only going to hurt my child one way or another.

Re: Supervised Visitation

That is the point of supervised visitation - to ensure that your ex does not harm the child and to ensure that he does not act inappropriately. I assume he received visitation from the court. If he did, then the court had a duty to decide same based on the child's best interests. You can only point out to the court the bad effect this is going to have on your child and hope the court rules in your favor or, at least, requires him to receive counselling or other therapy to help him become a better parent.
