Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

My ex is taking me to court for full custody of our children and to recive child support. I am currently hold full custody of the children, and are their sole provider.

My ex and I broke up because of domestic violence he inflcited on me on many different occasions, and also in the presence of witnesses. He also has a history of mental illness, drug abuse, and a criminal record.

My ex has a lwayer that his parents have provided for hime, but I cannot afford one at this time.

I was wondering what I could do to help my case, since I will be representing myself.
