tax exemptions

who should recieve the tax exemption if the parents were never married and the child resides with the mother, and the father pays 290.00 per month for child support?

Hello. I have been practicing law for 21 years and over that period of time I have seen the courts allow for an alternating year arrangement. In other words the court will order that the father be allowed to claim the child during even years and that the mother be allowed to claim the child during odd years. I would say that this is the rule 85% of the time, at least in Cook County. I hope my response has been helpful. Will be happy to answer any additional questions you may have.
