Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
If you have a trial date and the week before you receive notice that your attorney is withdrawing on the day of the hearing (Civil-Family Court). If on that day the attorney withdraws & the judge sets a new date for the hearing (21 days) & also issues a "rule to show cause" on that same day your attorney withdraws & tells you to either have an attorney or be prepared to represent yourself-Can he do this? Ive never heard of something bein issued on a case like that at the same time your attorney is withdrawing from your case

The rules require that a court continue a case for 21 days when an atty withdraws. The court was telling you that you were getting the required 21 days, but that at that point the matter would proceed to hearing. A rule to show cause was issued because someone is claiming you are violating a court order. Judges do not like it when someone is not following their orders. So the court wants you to follow its orders and is telling to you to be prepare to proceed to hearing, with a new lawyer or without one.
