Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

visitation problems

My previous attorney informed me that because of my ex-husband's job(he is a police officer) I cannot obtain a set visitation schedule. Instead I must allow my ex-husband to pick up our daughter whenever he wants to and drop her off whenever he wants to. I don't feel that this is proper OR fair. What can I do, if anything?
