Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Visitation...travel arangements

Upon my divorce, my ex wife moved approx 3 hours away to live with her mother and took my son with her. She is the custodial parent. We have a visitation agreement where I get my son every other weekend and holidays are also split up. I openly admit to my naivety when the papers were filed and basicly agreed. Now I am stuck driving 3 hours to pick my son up and 3 hours home for visits and the same for taking him home. I end up spending 12 hours of my 48 hour visit in the car.

This has been the situation for about four and a half years. Is there any way to get this changed where the travel arangments are split 50/50? My ex, for obvious reasons, has no intentions of getting in the car to drive my son to see me. If there is a way to change this, such as a precident, what are the odds of getting this changed?

If the information is pertinant, I live in the Chicagoland area and my ex lives in the Springfeild area. Thank you in advance for any help with this matter.

You can always ask to amend the custody arrangement - the court always looks to the best interests of the child.
