Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
wait until finish school?
My wife wants a divorce. (Married for 25 years)
We have been separated for over three years and many times prior to this one. Perhaps we spent more time apart than together.
She has one semester left in school. She is not working. I have been supporting her with our agreed upon amount (1k / month). Our separation is not court ordered. She wants to get a divorce now rather than wait until she finishes school and get a job. I think to get a higher alimony amount.
I'd rather wait until she finishes.
Is there a way to make her wait or to have the Judge consider her anticipated income?

Hello. If your wife wants a divorce, it probably will take more than a semester to resolve
all the issues. If you file first, you will control the time table to a great extent. Based on your posting I assume that the divorce has not been filed yet. Will be happy to discuss this further and in more detail.
