Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
My wife and I divorced, and we share custody of our child. She makes more money than I do, and our daughter is with each of us an equal amount of time. I was ordered to pay $700 a month in child support, plus an additional $200 for day care. She is 7, and in school. Does this seem right?

If your economic situation has changed since the divorce decree was entered (and I hope you had a lawyer represent you) you could go back to court and seek a change to the decree but there are parameters. Fairness is what the court determined if there was no marital settlement agreement, based on all the facts presented in a divorce proceeding (agreed or otherwise), or based upon a marital settlement agreement that the court inquired into prior to entering the decree. For all we know from the facts your ex is providing more than you are for your daughter's support, and based on yet other factors (is there a family home to pay for?) fairness is "relative".
This is not meant as a definitive answer but a general narrative to assist you in heading in the right direction. Any law cited or referred to may or may not apply to a specific set of facts. We nevertheless hope this is of some help to you.
