Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
My wife and I are divorcing. In Illinois the first step is to use an impartial mediator for 3 one hour sessions. My wife's lawyer recomended her exfiancee (also a divorce lawyer) as the mediator. By chance I have a friend who is good friends with the exfiancee, otherwise I would never of known. My lawyer excepted not knowing their previous relationship. If my wife's lawyer acting ethically? Should I care? Can I expect the suggested mediator to be impartial?

Full disclosure would have prompted the attorney to tell you about his prior relationship with the mediator, or the mediator to disclose that relationship. Who knows the effect of that former relationship on the process.
