Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

My wife filed for divorce at the end of December. Since then I hired a lawyer, & he filed an appearance for me in mid January. I was never served papers, because I do not want her to have my new address. Do I have to be served papers in order to get a court date? Like I said my lawyer filed an appearance for me already. Also would we get a court date faster if I was actually served papers? I want to get this divorce finished, & I want to move on with my life. Is there anything i can do to speed up process? We still don't have a court date. Thank You!!!

An appearance waives service. Talk to your lawyer. There are certain steps you need to take to get a court date.

Usually these things are under the control of the plaintiff. You should not expect a divorce to be done in less than 6 months or even a year except under special circumstances such as when there is no property, no assets and no children. Even then if the parties was to continue to fight it can take a long time to resolve. You've hired a lawyer, now let him handle it.
