Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

My wife and I have been married for 9 years. We have a 3 yr old son. We have been talking of getting a divorce for a while, but have taken any action. My wife all of the sudden decided she wants to quit her job without my consent or looking at our financial situation. If i go see an attorney and start the process now but she quits before the actual divorce is finalized, does this mean i will have to pay additional alimony since she will possibly not be working?
