Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Am I in the wrong for not wanting to fork out money to my sons mother? I have bills that I feel like should be paid first. I said that I would be willing to help pay for things for my son but I wanna make sure my bills are paid first.

The law is clear, and your wishes are normally not proper or acceptable. Your bills are of little concern to a court, whose desire is to make sure your child(ren) receive the support he/she/they are entitled to. Your spouse is entitled to money to help pay for the rent and utilities, the food and other expenses that are incurred in the raising of a child. The child support statutes of Illinois contain a calculation of how the exact amount is calculated. Soory, but that is how the system works.
