can an employer change your position and decrease your pay the day returning from short term disibility?

If the employer did it because you took FMLA it would probably be found actionable. If there was some other reason the answer may well be different. Remember that the E'er is NOT going to admit anything (or rarely) so you will need other proof of motive than the mere fact the adverse actions happened.
