Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois
Abandoned personal property
A former friends left her dinning room table in my basement for storage. No money was received for storing the furniture. How long until it is considered abandoned? It has 3 1/2 years.

Re: Abandoned personal property
There is no time limit. If the table was entrusted into you, then you must take care of it. If you want it gone, you must give notice to the owner that you want them to take the table away, and give them reasonable time to do so. If after the notice and at least one or two reminders, they still fail to take it, then you may have an argument that the table was abandoned.
