Claims for personal injury are barred if they are not filed with the clerk of the court within 2 years of the injury. Claims for damage to property are barred if they are not filed with the clerk of the court within 4 years of the damage. Some communities may require the filing of a report with the local police within a shorter time, but those rules do not affect the time to file the claim with the clerk of the court.
