Appearence filing
I am being sued by a credit card company for payment. I know I owe the money and would like to work out a payment plan with them, but my question is do I still have to file an appearence on my behalf because they sued?
I would like to call the company and work something out so as to avoid having to pay the appearence fee. Can I do this?

At this point, you have to communicate with the lawyers who have filed the suit. You can ask them whether or not it is possible to come to a settlement without you having to file an appearance. If they agree, fine. Otherwise, and generally, you must file an appearance if you do not want to get a default judgment against you.

If you want to avoid a default judgment, you need to file an appearance.
