Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois
I attended a very well known school here in Chicago. I was forced to sign over a refund check in the amount of two thousand plus dollars. I was told that the money was grant money that was to be rolled over into a fund for future students who were unable to pay for theyre own tuition. It caused me a great deal of stress and my grades plummeted. When I looked over my account statement it looks like I made a student payment of that exact amount. I thought grant money was not to be paid back?

These accounting practices sound dubious, but there is not really enough information above to determine if the school has abused its position in some way. You may have a claim for the emotional distress, however this is a difficult amount to prove in a situation such as this. If you believe you have been harmed it would be wise to discuss the specifics of the matter with an attorney.
