interviewed lawyers can't afford retainers. How do I represent myself to answer summons?

I strongly urge you to find a way to hire a lawyer. Think about what you could lose if you lose this case. You will have a much better chance of winning with a lawyer.

Generally there are Legal Aid programs in most cities. These programs provide legal advice and referral to low income families and individuals.I do not know in what county you reside but if you are in Cook County call: 312 - 738 -9200.
