Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois

Is it Really Company Theft?

A freind and I were questioned last Wednesday about the time we spend on the computer/Internet at work. The loss prevention manager said he had evidence of how often we were on there but he asked for our 'honest' estimates. We gave them and using the price sheet as a guide for what we charge for such services he said that I owed around 600.00 and my friend around 400.00. We signed several forms because were were scared, saying that we would pay and one that said they reserved the right to press civil charges. Two hours later before leaving we were fired and we still have to pay. Sould we pay? Since mine is over 500.00 is it a felony? Can they take us to court? Jail? If I can pay it all within 90 days then what?

Re: Is it Really Company Theft?

It is hard to tell you what your situation is since you have signed some papers which you do not really say what was their content. Without seeing what you have signed, it is difficult to tell you what your obligations under the law is at this time.

It appears, however, that you have accepted the fact that you owe them money, and have accepted to pay them. This seems to be a contractual agreement, the breech of it, may result in a breach of contract action. You should have an attorney take a look at the papers you have and see what your options are.
