Re: copy of court decision

In Illinois, there is one court for each county. Each county court has a clerk of the court. The clerk of the court is usually in the county seat of that county. Counties are relatively large, so by looking at an atlas available in your local library, you should be able to ascertain the counties in which you may have been charged. You should be able to ascertain the county seats of those counties by looking at the atlas as well. The reference librarian of your local library should be able to help you do this research. When you find the potential counties and county seats, use telephone directories or directory assistance to call each clerk and ask them to look up your case. When you find the right clerk, ask for copies of the court file, which will cost you a little money. The clerk may want to be paid in advance.

In order to shorten your search, usually the disposition of criminal cases are reported to the Illinois State Police. You can request a copy of your criminal history from the State Police, this will tell you where the case took place, and then you can contact the clerk of that court.
