Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois

Cyber defamation, slander, libel

I had a nightmare real estate transaction in which my attorney approved buyers credits without my approval. The attorney essentially walked away saying that once the funds were disbursed, our relationship was terminated. She has essentially ignored all requests to attempt to rectify the situation.

I bought a domain name that is essentially...

www.attorneysnamelaw dot com

And built a web page that has links to resources such as regulatory agencies, consumer advocacy groups and professional associations that accept complaints and grievances related to the legal and real estate professions.

My question is does any of this put me at risk of a suit? Also, can I publish my opinions of her work, negligence and incompetence as long as I clearly state it as my opinion without putting myself at risk?

Is there a cybersquatting issue with the domain name?

Re: Cyber defamation, slander, libel

You definately will be putting yourself at risk. However, keep in mind that truth is an absolute defense to a slander suit. I suggest that you contact the Attorney Disciplinary Commission if you had a problem with your attorney. If the attorney was referred to you, contact the referral service.

The domain name is another issue. Since you are not in competition with her, owning those rights are probably o.k. absent the slander issue.
