Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois

My dog bit another dog and that dog didn't make it. I paid the vet bill and the cost of cremation for the other dog. Am I legally liable to pay anything further? And if so, how would the "value" of the dog be determined and would what I paid for the cremation be deducted from that price?

In order to determine the value of the dog, an expert opinion will be needed. Likely a letter from a pet store where such dogs are put for sale with the selling price will determine value.
