former employer sueing me

my former employer purchased a computer for me for home use. when i quit my job he demanded it back. he filed a theft complaint first

and now he is taking me to small claims court. can i countersue him for retaliation? thankyou.

The computer was not a gift. You need to give it back. And no, "retaliation" is not a recognized cause of action in Illinois. You'd best a get a lawyer.

The computer is your employer's. Give it back, and get a receipt.
