Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois

Ending a lawsuit

I had a lawsuit against someone in small claims court because he did not pay me for work. He has now payed me. It is my understanding that I will need to file a ''stipulation to dismiss'' to formally end the case. Can you please explian the procedural aspects of this?

Do I have to just file it with the court? Do I have to go before the judge for him to sign it? I'm interested to know how many trips to the court house I will need to make to get this done. Thank you.

Re: Ending a lawsuit

The procedure would depend on whether you obtained a judgment or merely had a case pending at the time of payment.
