Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois

I need some help

My ex-boyfried was mad one day and he choked me and then my dog started barking at him because he was hurting me and he then strangled her and threw her on the floor. Well, my dog had medical problems and the vet said she was getting better. After that incident occured she started getting worse and exactly one week later she passed away. Now I don't know what to do. I had called the cops when the incident happened and he went to jail and then paid the fine to be bailed out, but he killed my dog i had her for 7 years and she was my angel. There is noway to ever replace her but i want him to pay for what he did. I have a statement from the vet and she said that it was because of the incident that she passed away.

Follow up with the police to see if there is an additional charge you can press related to the death of the dog. And take him to small claims court - he will at least have to pay for your vet bills or the cost of a new dog.
