In a criminal matter, the prosecution is the State--not the victim who is simply a witness. Therefore, if the prosecutor has enough evidence to proceed with the criminal prosecution, there are no reasons why the prosecution should stop if the witness dies. It all depends how much solid evidence the prosecutor already has.
