Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois

Illegal garnishing of wages

I came to an agreement with a creditor I had to pay a settelment offer and my debt would be paid. Upon recipt of payment all action to garnish my check would be stopped. I paid the agreed settelment immediately in January of 2007, and in the second week of March they have garnished my check. I called my creditor and they told me they will take care of this right away. Here in April they garnished my check again, this time they have placed my job in jeoperdy as well as causing hardship by not being able to pay my other creditors. I have been trying to rebuild my credit. This is the reason I paid this creditor so that I would not have a garnishment on my credit history. Since I paid this debt I feel they have no reason to garnish my check and have this on my credit report. What action can I take?

Re: Illegal garnishing of wages

Obtain a Release and Satisfaction of judgment showing full payment in January and file it with the court. Also, ask the judge for an order termintaitngthe garnishment. Send a copy of the Release and Satisfaction to the credit agencies.
