Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois
I was involved in a hit & run in December 09. I got the license plate & filed a police report. I would now like to sue this person for the cost of my rental car & my deductible. What steps do I need to take?

File a complaint and summons in the court in the county where the defendant lives or where the occurrence took place.

Your insurance company will very likely be interested in recovering from the other driver as well. I recommend you contact your insurance company and ask them for a status of their 'subrogation' case. The Claim Rep assigned to handle the case should be able to give you a complete status of their recovery efforts.
