Do i have to pay him back?

I met a guy online, we met in person. Online and in person he offered to get me a hotel room if I was uncomfortable staying at his place. I was and he insisted on paying, he picked the place, put it in his name, helped me find it and left. We dated a few times but I broke it off. He then wanted me to pay him the 134 back, insisting that I offered to in the first place (I did, but he redfused, he said he wouldn't take any money). He called me a few names and I said you know what, '' you offered, you payed, I don't owe you anything'' He said he was waiting for a check in the mail. I ignored multiple text messages but not he said he's going to file a police report if I dont give him the money. He said he needs it now (after several weeks) because his mom is sick. Can he do that? I'm a legally obligated to give him the money? Will he take me to court? Did I actually do anything wrong? When he payed for the room he insisted I didn't have to pay him back. Honestly...I think he was expecting me to sleep with him or be his girlfriend and when he found out that was happening he wanted the money back. Please help!
