Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois

personal bad debt loan

a friend needed cash ($13,000) to buy a used car and my daughter put it on her credit card with a promise of either paying it in it's entirety or payments. Neither was received. Cannot contact the person who 'borrowed' the money. Is there any hope of recovering the debt? Thank you.

Re: personal bad debt loan

Probably not, unless you think the person with the car has assets or a job. In that case, it may be worth taking to a local attorney to attempt to find and serve the person and collect on the debt (private investigator?). You might be able to find an attorney willing to do this on a contingent basis, in which case, if recovered, such attorney would get about a third of the recovery, usually after costs. If the car happens to be registered in your daughter's name, then she could report it stolen.
