Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois
personal property damage
A friend and I had a falling out over 2 years ago. She was storing some furniture in my basement. She never paid to store the furniture, or did I ask her to pay. Last summer my basement flooding and damaged the furniture beyond repair. So it was thrown away. After not hearing from her in over 2 years, she is calling wanting her furniture. Am I responsible for damages or have to pay for her furniture?

Possibly, depending on all of the circumstances of the flooding, whether your neglignece caused the flooding and whether there was a history of flooding.
